The life of Jacques Lamain
Biography
Jacques Lamain belonged to the family circle of Saint-Vivien in Rouen, on the Seine River in Normandy, northern France, remembered in his daughter Marguerite’s Canadian marriage records. The parish identification is unusually useful: it places the family within a particular Rouen community rather than leaving only the broad label “Normandy.” His wife was Marguerite Deshaies, whose name appears as Des Haies in the published church-record transcription.
Their daughter married Michel Rognon at Québec city, on the St. Lawrence River in present-day Canada, in September 1670. Her earlier marriage contract also named her French parents and Saint-Vivien.
