The life of Jean Dumontet
Biography
Jean Dumontet is identified as the father of Jean-Baptiste Dumontet, called Lagrandeur, in the published index to his son’s marriage at La Prairie, across the St. Lawrence from Montréal in present-day Québec, Canada, in 1712. The groom’s mother is named Georgette Foran, also known as Georgette Forand.
The younger man’s origins have been disputed. A reproduced PRDH note identifies him as French and associates him with Blond in the Limoges region. This proposed identification remains uncertain.
