The life of Marie Dubois

Text size

Biography

After Michel Anthiaume's death, Marie Dubois pursued a case against the abbé Dorion. The family's July 1664 guardianship proceedings record money set aside for her two daughters, Marie and Marguerite, under the supervision of their paternal uncle Antoine Anthiaume. The funds were intended for their future training or marriage.

The daughters followed different paths through the surviving record. Marguerite crossed to Canada and married André Jarret de Beauregard at Montréal, in present-day Québec, Canada, in January 1676. Her marriage papers named Marie Dubois as her mother and placed the family in the parish of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs in Paris, France.

A later document, dated April 1, 1709, names a Marie Dubois, widow of Michel Anthiaume, living on the rue du Four in Saint-Sulpice. Published research associates this testament with the same family. The account may describe Marie’s later life in Paris; her subsequent relationship with Marguerite is unknown.
