The life of Aime Jolivet
Biography
The hospital register remembered Aimé Jolivet by both his name and his additional name, Mitron. In 1711 its entry identified him as a man from Jargeau, in the diocese of Orléans in central France, aged fifty-three. It recorded that he received the sacraments and died on May 7.
Aimé was a son of Jacques Jolivet and Nicole Bouvillonne. His approximate birth around 1658 rests on the age reported at death. By August 1689 he was in New France, entering a marriage contract with Anne Fiset before the notary Étienne Jacob. Anne was a daughter of Abraham Fiset and Denise Savard, from the L'Ange-Gardien family.
The couple's children connect their household with the Québec region over the following two decades. Marguerite was born in 1691, Joachim in 1693 and Marie-Josèphe in 1696. Marie-Françoise, Charles-François, Joseph and Barbe followed. The younger children were still small when both parents disappeared from the records in 1711.
Aimé had also been a patient at the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in Québec city in September 1703, when the register again used the name Mitron and identified his origins as Orléans. His diagnosis is unknown.
Anne's burial at L'Ancienne-Lorette was recorded on May 7, 1711, the day of Aimé's death at the Hôtel-Dieu in Québec.
