The life of Jean Perrier / Olivier

Biography

Jean Perrier was born and baptized at La Prairie, across the St. Lawrence from Montréal in present-day Québec, Canada, on April 27, 1692. His parents were Laurent Perrier and Marie Bessette. The baptismal index gives his father the combined names Perrier and Olivier, helping explain why both names appear in the next generation.

Jean was twenty-six when he married Catherine Jousset at Notre-Dame in Montréal on November 14, 1718. The marriage summary describes him as an unmarried resident of La Prairie. Their family grew over the next seventeen years. The children included Pierre, Anne, René, Agnès and a younger Jean, as well as Marie-Catherine, Marie-Anne and the infant Jean-Évangéliste.

He died on August 2, 1752, aged sixty. The burial was recorded the next day at Saint-Constant, but the indexed entry specifically says that he was interred inside the church of Saint-Philippe. That distinction preserves a more precise location than the parish heading alone. Catherine survived him for more than seven years.
