The life of Louise Payet

Biography

Louise Payet, also recorded as Payette or Saint-Amour, was baptized at Pointe-aux-Trembles, on Montréal Island in present-day Québec, Canada, on March 5, 1686. Her parents were Pierre Payet and Louise Tessier. At eighteen, she married Nicolas-Antoine Boyer there on June 2, 1704. Their marriage contract had been drawn up before Antoine Adhémar on May 12, several weeks before the ceremony.

Their children's marriages trace a family extending well beyond Montréal. Joseph married Françoise Sénécal at La Prairie. Pierre and Ignace married into the Pépin family at Detroit, in present-day Michigan, while Nicolas married at Kaskaskia in the Illinois country, in what is now southwestern Illinois in the United States. Marie-Josephte married Louis Bouchard in Montréal.

Louise lived to see the family spread across those communities, but she also outlived several children. Her daughter Marie-Madeleine died early in January 1757. Louise died in Montréal on January 20, eighteen days later, and was buried the following day. She was seventy. Her husband survived her until 1759.

The burial listing places Louise Payet at Cimetière Notre-Dame (1672-1830), Montréal, Montréal Region, Québec, Canada.
