The life of Catherine Jousset
Biography
Catherine Jousset was born in Montréal, on the St. Lawrence River in present-day Québec, Canada, on June 23, 1696, the daughter of Pierre Jousset and Jeanne Goyette. She married Jean Perrier, also known as Olivier, at Notre-Dame in November 1718. Their eldest listed child, Marie-Catherine, arrived the following year. The family compilation records eight children, with births continuing into 1736.
That sequence includes a very short life: Jean-Évangéliste was born and died in April 1731. Other children reached adulthood and married into families bearing the names Lemieux, Martin, Giroux and Poissant. Marie-Catherine married first François Dumont and later Louis Jarret. The two surnames Perrier and Olivier appear within the same household’s records.
Catherine outlived Jean, who died in 1752. Their daughter Marie-Anne died in 1755, during Catherine’s widowhood. Catherine herself died at Saint-Philippe on January 17, 1760, aged sixty-three, and was buried the following day.
