The life of Marie-Louise Dumouchel
Biography
Marie-Louise Dumouchel married Jacques Bertrand in Montréal, on the St. Lawrence River in present-day Québec, Canada, on September 19, 1729. She was the daughter of Paul Dumouchel and another Marie-Louise, born Tessier. Her own birth is placed in 1710; family records give August 19, while one compilation specifically labels that day as her baptism.
Her children’s marriages show the household’s connections spreading beyond Montréal. Louis-Michel married at La Prairie in 1763, while Joseph-Vital later married at Oka. Two different daughters were named Marie-Louise.
One son’s history has required a more substantial correction. Joseph-Laurent, baptized in 1741, was the man who married Marie-Thérèse Dulignon and lived as a trader at Michilimackinac, in the Straits of Mackinac region of present-day Michigan. A cousin of a similar name became a priest.
Marie-Louise did not live to see Joseph-Laurent’s 1762 marriage. The specialist family chronology distinguishes her death in Montréal on April 15, 1761 from her burial on April 16.
