The life of Jean-Baptiste Rognon
Biography
Jean-Baptiste Rognon, also known as Laroche, was born on June 17, 1719 in the Lotbinière area, on the south side of the St. Lawrence upstream from Québec city in present-day Québec, Canada. His parents were Guillaume Rognon and Marie-Angélique Houde. The second surname continued in the next generation: his daughter Louise and his son Jean-Baptiste appear under Laroche, a useful connection when following this family through records.
He married Suzanne Choret at Sainte-Croix on January 6, 1746. A separate notarial catalogue lists a marriage contract for Jean-Baptiste Rognon four days earlier, before the notary Jean-Baptiste Choret.
Louise was born in March 1748, followed by Jean-Baptiste in September 1749. Louise later married François Plante, linking this household to the Plante family. Suzanne's second marriage is recorded in August 1761. A family chronology gives Jean-Baptiste’s death as July 24, 1761, but the identification is uncertain.
