The life of Catherine-Charlotte Gagne
Biography
Catherine-Charlotte Gagné was a daughter of Louis-Étienne Gagné and Anne-Jeanne Tessier. The family chronology places her birth at La Prairie, across the St. Lawrence from Montréal in present-day Québec, Canada, on August 20, 1723. Her father died in 1740, before her marriage; her mother lived until 1750.
Catherine-Charlotte married Jean-Baptiste Poissant at La Prairie on February 6, 1747. The couple were a generation apart in age: she was twenty-three and Jean-Baptiste forty-six. Their son Pierre was born in July 1749. Daughters Marie-Françoise and Charlotte followed in the published family account, which dates Charlotte's birth to March 1752.
Her children formed households within the wider La Prairie region. Pierre married Véronique Bouchard, and Charlotte married Joachim Thibert.
