The life of Marie-Josephte Boyer
Biography
Marie-Josephte Boyer's life linked Montréal with the communities south of the St. Lawrence River in present-day Québec, Canada. The family compilation dates her birth to August 10, 1725 and identifies her as the daughter of Nicolas-Antoine Boyer and Louise Payet. Her marriage to Louis Bouchard took place in Montréal on February 15, 1751, when she was twenty-five.
The surviving family outline follows a long period of childbearing: Louis, the eldest child listed, was born in January 1752, while Ignace was born in April 1766. Between them came Josephte, Louise-Amable, Véronique and Marguerite. Their adult marriages connected Marie-Josephte's household with several neighboring families. Véronique married Pierre Poissant; Louise-Amable married Jean-Baptiste Barbeau.
Marie-Josephte also outlived her daughter Josephte, whose death is recorded in August 1785. The same compilation places her death at Saint-Constant on February 1, 1795, at sixty-nine, although its underlying citation is to a burial source.
