The life of Joseph-Laurent / Laurent Bertrand
Biography
Joseph-Laurent Bertrand's compiled record connects Montréal, in present-day Québec, Canada, with the Great Lakes settlement of Michilimackinac, in the Straits of Mackinac region of present-day Michigan. It distinguishes his birth on November 6, 1741 from baptism two days later and identifies his parents as Jacques Bertrand and Marie-Louise Dumouchel.
He married Marie-Thérèse Dulignon at Montréal on August 31, 1762. The compilation describes him as a voyageur and records a later marriage to Barbe-Félicité Pilette at Sainte-Anne, Mackinac, on July 30, 1796.
His final recorded events return him to the Montréal region: death at Pointe-Claire, on Montréal Island, on November 16, 1817 and burial on November 19.
