The life of Marie-Anne Lamarre
Biography
Marie-Anne Lamarre was born at Saint-Philippe, south of La Prairie in present-day Québec, Canada, on June 15, 1760, the daughter of Michel Lamarre and Marie-Anne Monet. She grew up in a family with children born over a twenty-year span. On August 13, 1787, she married Antoine Jarret in the parish associated with her own birth. She was twenty-seven.
The first child listed for the couple, also Marie-Anne, was born in July 1788 and died in August. Their son Barthélemy followed in 1790. Another Marie-Anne was born in 1793, and the family later included Louis, Marie-Josephte and Marie-Catherine. The repetition of Marie-Anne records two daughters, not a single child with inconsistent dates.
Marie-Josephte died in 1799, before her second birthday. Marie-Catherine was born in 1801. These entries extend the household's traceable history into the new century. A family account places Marie-Anne’s death before 1810; her exact death date is unknown. The identifiable record is the family she formed at Saint-Philippe, with its births, losses and surviving children.
