Marie-Louise Deblois

Biography

Marie-Louise Deblois was born around 1784 to Pierre-Chrysologue Deblois and Angélique Giguère. She married Charles Bergeron in the community now called Louiseville, near Lake Saint-Pierre in Québec, Canada, in April 1801, while still in her teens. Over the following twenty-seven years their household included children whose names recur across the local parish records: Charles-Désiré, Tharsile, Louis, Émilie, Euphrosine, Cécile and others.

The family’s losses were interspersed with those births. Adélaïde died in 1803, Ignace in 1815 and François-Xavier in 1819. Their daughter Marie-Louise died in 1820, and Émilie in 1843. The repeated presence of children and adult children in the record gives a much longer view of this marriage than its wedding entry alone.

After Charles’s death in 1853, Marie-Louise lived another four years. During that period, the Vadeboncoeur genealogy places their son Édouard’s emigration to the United States in 1854; the Frigon association dates Cécile’s family’s move to Illinois to about 1856. Marie-Louise died at Sainte-Ursule on October 11, 1857. Her children’s lives were spreading into different places while her own final record remained in Québec.
