The life of Charles Bergeron
Biography
Charles Bergeron and Marie-Louise Deblois married at Saint-Antoine-de-la-Rivière-du-Loup, now Louiseville, near Lake Saint-Pierre in Québec, Canada, on April 20, 1801. Charles was a son of Jean-Baptiste Bergeron and Amable Lesieur. His childhood belonged to the same regional network of families that their children would later marry into: Paquin, Bélanger, Ringuet and Chevalier among them.
The household’s recorded births stretch from Marie-Louise in 1802 to François in 1828. Several children died very young, including Adélaïde, Ignace and François-Xavier. Others reached adulthood and established families. The eldest listed daughter, Marie-Louise, married Antoine Billy but died in December 1820, still eighteen.
Charles died at nearby Sainte-Ursule on April 27, 1853. Some of the family’s American chapters came afterward. A researched Vadeboncoeur genealogy identifies their son Édouard as the husband of Marie-Adélaïde Vadeboncoeur and follows him to Minnesota, where census entries record him farming. Cécile’s second household settled in Illinois. Charles’s recorded life remained in Québec.
