The life of Polly Lamprey Moulton

Text size

Biography

Polly Lamprey was the wife of Captain Daniel Moulton of Gilmanton, in the Lakes Region of central New Hampshire. The town history identifies their sons Joses and Daniel, while a later family biography also names daughters Polly and Martha, known as Patty.

Her marriage joined the Lamprey and Moulton families, whose connections extended from the New Hampshire coast into Gilmanton. The pedigree places Polly in the household of Simon Lamprey and Patience Hobbs, although that parentage remains provisional.

Daniel died away from home in February 1822 while visiting Winthrop, in central Maine near Augusta. The surviving accounts preserve that event more clearly than they preserve Polly's own later circumstances. Her life is presently visible chiefly through the household and children named in those family histories.

An earlier family chronology assigns Polly the years 1763–1822. Those dates remain uncertain.
