The life of Lydia Higgins Doane
Biography
Lydia Higgins married Uriah Doane at Eastham, on Cape Cod in present-day Massachusetts, in 1784. A daughter of Elkanah Higgins and Sarah Knowles, she had been born in 1762. Her early married life remained on Cape Cod, where the Doane genealogy records the births of five children: Joel, Ebenezer, Ruth, Cynthia and Elkanah.
In 1793 Lydia's household moved inland with Uriah. The family settled in the part of Hardwick later known as Dana, in central Massachusetts, where Uriah purchased land and buildings that December. The birth of their son Isaac there in June 1798 marks the family's establishment in its new home.
The family chronology places Lydia's death in 1812, before Uriah's death around 1821.
