The life of John Wicks

Biography

John Wicks made his living at sea before settling inland in New York. A 1912 history of Oneida County describes him as a ship captain and owner who traded with the West Indies, the Caribbean island region, in partnership with Comfort and Constant Sands. It recounts how he survived a shipwreck and spent a period stranded on an island.

He was born around 1763–64, a son of Edward Wick and Phebe [surname unknown] Wick in the family reconstruction. His wife was Sarah Bartlett Wicks, and their son was Edward Bartlett Wicks.

In 1800, John moved to Paris Hill in central New York and bought a farm of several hundred acres. The family chronology places his death in 1836.

His recorded burial association is Hillcrest Cemetery at Paris, New York.
