The life of Edward Chamberlain
Biography
Edward Chamberlain and Sarah Champney announced their intention to marry at Dudley, in southern Massachusetts near the Connecticut border, on July 28, 1770. The entry identifies Sarah with Southborough, east of Worcester in Massachusetts; the Southborough marriage finding dates their wedding to August 31 that year.
Dudley’s birth records place their growing family in the town. A daughter Chloe was born in January 1772, followed by Asahel in September 1775. Chloe died in December 1776. Another daughter, also named Chloe, was born in July 1784 and died in April 1786. These entries preserve both the expansion of Edward and Sarah’s household and repeated childhood bereavement.
