The life of Daniel Bartlett Jr.
Biography
Daniel Bartlett lived through three marriages and successive changes in his household at Guilford, on Connecticut’s southern coast. Born on March 31, 1688, he married Hannah Willard in December 1715. After her death, he married Ann Collins on March 31, 1720. Their son John, later a North Guilford deacon, was born in 1735.
Ann died in 1745. In July 1747 Daniel married Lydia Sage, a marriage recorded at Guilford and associated in the compiled account with Cromwell, farther inland in Connecticut. He lived until June 1769, when the church record described him as more than eighty years old.
His long life is clearest in these household and church records. They document the loss of two wives, the formation of a third marriage, and the survival of a family rooted in Guilford over several generations.
The cited Guilford birth transcription names his parents as Daniel and Sarah. The published family reconstruction identifies them as Daniel Bartlett, born in 1665, and Sarah Meigs.
The burial listing associates Daniel Bartlett Jr. with Old North Cemetery, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
