Cynthia Hixon Walker

Biography

Cynthia Hixon was born on December 13, 1879. Her memorial places her birth in Lincoln, in northern Rhode Island, and identifies her parents as Edmund Talman Hixon and Nancy Carpenter Hixon. She grew up in a family tied to the Carpenter household and burial ground across the Massachusetts border.

Cynthia's childhood included two early losses. Her younger brother Mortimer died in 1890, shortly before his second birthday. Her father died in 1898, when she was eighteen. Her mother survived until 1927, carrying the family connection into the years when Cynthia had a household of her own.

Cynthia married Hugh Albert Walker. Their children included Mary Louise, Edmund Hixon and Nancy Alberta. The names in the family preserve both sides of Cynthia's background: Hixon in her son's name and Nancy in her younger daughter's. Nancy's later obituary identifies Cynthia as her mother and places that daughter's birth in Providence in 1920.

Cynthia died on March 19, 1966, aged eighty-six. She had survived her husband, Hugh. Her burial is recorded in Section 2 of the Carpenter Burial Ground in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, near other members of the Hixon and Carpenter families.
