Francis Wood Carpenter

Francis Wood Carpenter spent forty years with Congdon & Carpenter, according to an industrial survey published in 1892. The Providence firm dealt in iron and steel. His other responsibilities crossed manufacturing, banking and insurance: president of the Rhode Island Perkins Horseshoe Company and American National Bank, and an insurance-company director.

Family correspondence recalled his name on a ten-dollar bank note. The banking records identify him as a national-bank president and note signer; the particular note retained by the family has not yet been photographed.
