20. Charles Lewis Tiffany (1812–1902)
Tiffany opened the business that became Tiffany & Co. in New York in 1837 with John B. Young. Under his leadership the firm moved from stationery and fancy goods into jewelry, silver and gemstones. The company became famous for major diamonds, its Blue Book catalogue, and adoption of the .925 sterling standard. Madison’s branch and Charles’s branch meet farther back in the early New England Tiffany family.
