01BIOGRAPHY

Life in context.

40. Marie Catherine Charet / Charest (19th century)
Marie Catherine married Jude Bourassa in 1833 and became mother of the family that CPN histories list as including Eugene Bourassa. She moved west with Jude as Potawatomi families were pushed from the Great Lakes region into Kansas. Individual biographical records for her are much thinner than for the men around her, which is precisely why she is included: the migration and survival of the family depended on women whose lives were seldom documented in public office records.
Evidence status. Direct relationship has strong CPN family-history support; dates and name spelling remain less precise.
Citizen Potawatomi Nation roll-line image supplied by the family. This is an official-record image, not a portrait.
